An Android phone can record a very useful hiking trail, but a GPS logging app is not the same thing as emergency satellite communications. Build your plan around that difference.
The phone can often receive GNSS satellite signals without an internet connection, especially under open sky. That makes local route recording possible in places with no cellular coverage.
The remote map, however, cannot update until the phone gets a network path. Do not promise family members continuous live tracking in an area where you know there is no data coverage.
If you depend on map imagery or a navigation app, download offline maps where the app supports it. A phone that knows its coordinates but cannot load the map tiles you expected can still be awkward to use.
Carry a power bank for longer hikes and keep the charging cable protected from rain.
Dense foliage and steep terrain can reduce sky visibility and create reflections. Do not interpret a noisy trail as a precise record of which side of a path somebody used.
Wait for a stable outdoor fix before starting the hike if accurate route logging matters.
Tell someone your planned route and expected return time. In remote terrain, consider purpose-built emergency communication equipment appropriate to the region and activity.
A web GPS tracker that depends on mobile data cannot summon connectivity where the network does not exist.

Do one complete rehearsal before a remote hike. Start the tracker, lock the phone, walk for at least half an hour, put the phone in the pocket or pack where you will actually carry it, and verify later that the route continued. A test with the screen constantly on does not reproduce real hiking conditions.
If you are hiking outside reliable cellular coverage, tell viewers in advance that the web map may pause and later fill in. That prevents a normal connectivity gap from being mistaken for an emergency—and prevents a real emergency plan from depending on a consumer web tracker.
Test the exact setup you plan to carry. Start tracking, lock the screen, put the phone in the same pocket or backpack compartment you will use on the hike, and walk for at least half an hour. Afterwards, confirm that the route continued while the screen was off and that delayed points upload correctly after a connectivity gap.
If the trail enters an area without mobile data, a remote viewer may see an old point until the phone reconnects. Make that limitation clear in advance so a normal coverage gap is not automatically mistaken for an emergency.
For genuinely remote or high-risk trips, choose emergency communication equipment appropriate to the activity and region. A consumer Android tracker can be an excellent journey record, but it should not be the only safety system when reliable off-grid communication is required.
Tracking should not consume so much battery that the phone is unavailable when you actually need maps, a call or an emergency message. On a long hike, route-detail settings should be chosen with that reserve in mind.
