How to Install an APK on a Samsung Galaxy Phone

Samsung Galaxy phones can install Android APK files outside Google Play. One UI may use slightly different menu names than stock Android, but the security model is the same: Android grants installation ability to a specific source app.

Download from the official website

Open the developer's real website in Samsung Internet, Chrome or another browser you trust. Download the APK directly. Avoid third-party 'APK download' sites when the developer already distributes the current package.

For LocationOf, use the official LocationOf domain rather than a reposted file.

Open the APK

Tap the download notification or open the browser's download list. When Android blocks the install because the browser is not yet allowed to install unknown apps, use the Settings option shown by the system.

On some One UI versions you can also search Settings for Install unknown apps or special access.

Allow only the app you are using

If you downloaded with Samsung Internet, enable the install permission for Samsung Internet; if you deliberately open the file from My Files, Android may ask about that source instead.

Do not grant every browser and file manager the same capability. Keeping the permission narrowly scoped reduces accidental installation risk.

Review Samsung and Google security prompts

Samsung's security features and Google Play Protect may inspect or warn about packages from outside the store. A legitimate developer-distributed APK can still trigger informational prompts because the distribution channel is different.

Read the warning. If the package name, source or behavior does not match what you expected, cancel and verify the download instead of forcing the install.

After LocationOf is installed

Open the app and complete its own setup. Grant location only when you understand why the tracker needs it. If you want reliable ongoing tracking, review the background-location and Samsung battery settings separately.

Continue with Samsung background GPS tracking and Android background location explained.

If Samsung refuses to install the package

A failed installation does not always mean the APK is unsafe. Common causes include downloading an incomplete file, attempting to install a build that requires a newer Android version, running out of storage, or trying to replace an existing app that was signed differently.

Delete the questionable download and fetch a fresh copy from the official source before changing security settings. If an older LocationOf build is already installed, check whether the new package is intended as a direct update. If Android reports an incompatible signature, preserve any app data you need and verify the correct upgrade path before uninstalling anything.

Samsung enterprise or family-managed devices may also have administrator policies that block sideloading. In that case the right solution is to work with the device administrator, not to look for a bypass.

If Samsung refuses to install the APK

A failed installation does not automatically mean the file is malicious. Common causes include an incomplete download, insufficient storage, an Android version that is too old for the package, or an existing installation signed with a different certificate.

Delete a suspicious or incomplete download and fetch a fresh copy from the official LocationOf download page before changing more security settings. If Android reports a signature conflict, verify the correct upgrade path instead of looking for a way to bypass the signature check.

Samsung security settings are not all the same thing

“Install unknown apps” grants a specific browser or file manager permission to request package installation. It is separate from Location permission, background execution and battery settings. Installing the APK therefore does not automatically grant the tracker permission to collect GPS positions.

Managed Samsung devices can also be subject to enterprise or parental policies that block sideloading. In that situation, use the legitimate administrator workflow rather than trying to defeat the management restriction. After installation, continue with the Samsung background-GPS guide if you want long-running tracking.

After installation

Return to the browser or file manager's “Install unknown apps” setting and disable it again if you do not regularly sideload applications. LocationOf will remain installed; you are only removing that source application's ability to request another package installation until you deliberately enable it again.
